Written for the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra
Oaken Sky was written for the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra in the summer of 2011. The title is simply an image. One clear night, I stood under an oak tree and looked up at the sky. It was very beautiful, and I especially noticed how the light of the stars was blurred by the branches of the oak. That image inspired this work, and I try to convey that landscape in a variety of orchestral textures. Oaken Sky is dedicated to my sister, Bethany.
